10-men Liverpool defeats Newcastle in a 2-1 thriller

At St. James’ Park, Darwin Nunez scored twice in the dying minutes to cap an incredible comeback and give ten-man Liverpool a thrilling victory over Newcastle United.

Anthony Gordon scored in the 25th minute after capitalizing on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s error, and for much of the fascinating game, Liverpool was battling against the odds and second best. Three minutes later, captain Virgil van Dijk was dismissed for a tackle on Alexander Isak.

Before Uruguayan attacker Nunez was brought to surprising effect, Alisson miraculously turned Miguel Almiron’s shot off the post in the first half. The forward also hit the post after the break.

With nine minutes remaining, Nunez sprinted through to beat Nick Pope in goal for Newcastle.
