Gov Sanwo Olu submits 18 fresh commissioner-nominees list to Lagos Assembly

The second batch of 18 commissioner nominees as been submitted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday to the Lagos State House of Assembly for screening on Tuesday.

In the plenary, the Speaker, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, announced this.

Obasa pleaded with the screening committee, which is chaired by Mr. Fatai Mojeed, to thoroughly vet the new nominations and report back to the house on Thursday.

The 18 commissioner nominees, according to the speaker, are Dr. Afolabi Tajudeen, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Prof. Akin Abayomi, Mr. Olalere Odusote, Dr. Oluwarotimi Fashola, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medem, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, and Mr. Samuel Egube.

Mr. Tolani Akibu, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, Mrs. Barakat Bakare, Mr. Olugbenga Omotoso, Mr. Mosopefolu George, Mr. Yekini Agbaje, Dr. Olumide Oluyinka, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, Dr. Iyabode Ayoola, and Mr. Sola Giwa were listed as more individuals by Obasa.

According to NAN, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, read a letter from the governor outlining the names provided before the speaker made his statement.

According to Onafeko, Sanwo-Olu stated that while new names were added, some of the names were represented.

According to the clerk, the letter commended the speaker and the members of the house for their dedication and devotion throughout the recent screening and confirmation of 22 nominations.

“Your rigorous assessment of these nominees in adherence to your constitutional obligations demonstrates your dedication to ensuring a competent and effective council.

“After careful consideration of the 17 names that were rejected, I have decided to represent a list of nominees which includes a balanced selection of previously presented and new individuals.

“This list represents a broad political spectrum and diverse backgrounds reflective of the rich diversity of our lovely state,” the clerk quoted Sanwo-Olu as saying.

The governor was quoted by the clerk as adding that he had faith that the new nominees would bring new perspectives to advance the state’s development.

According to The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the assembly rejected 17 commissioner nominees on Wednesday, including former commissioners for information Mr. Gbenga Omotosho and health Prof. Akin Abayomi.

However, the lawmakers approved 22 additional governor nominees for commissioner.

The procedure, which involved a voice vote, followed the assembly’s Committee of the Whole’s plenary assessment of the nominations. (NAN)
