Niger govt begins recruitment of CRK teachers

On Friday, the Niger State Government announced that it has finalized plans to hire Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) teachers in all of the state’s public schools.
At the North Central Zone biannual convention of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) in Minna, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago made this announcement. He also said that his administration will work with women to combat drug misuse among young people in the state.
The state government of Niger State needs to hire more CRK teachers, according to Platinum Times, in order to boost the morale of students who attend public schools. This was stated by the chairman of CAN in Niger State, Most Rev Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, on Wednesday during the 45th Anniversary and National Conference of the National Association of Christian Religious Educators of Nigeria (NACREN) in Minna.
According to Governor Bago, who was represented by Jonathan Vatsa, religious education in schools continues to be one of the most effective approaches to combat social vices.
According to him:
“The government has concluded arrangements to recruit CRK teachers across the state. We have asked the leadership of CAN in the state to come up with modalities because we want the best for our children.
“We all know that religious teachings in schools can help to reshape the lives of our children. We are faced with drug abuse, youth restiveness, thuggery, and other social vices.”
He then decried the increasing level of drug abuse among youths, adding that women need to do more to nurture and guide their children and wards against drug abuse so that they can become useful members of society.
“In view of this development, the state government has decided to partner with the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN) to combat the menace in the state,” he said.
