IGP meets Lagos CP, constitutes special squad to investigate Mohbad’s death

Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, has formed a special team to investigate the death of Nigerian artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Saturday that the squad was recruited from the homicide department of the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
He stated that the team has already begun its inquiry into the situation.
Mr Hundeyin stated that the special investigative team was formed in response to mounting public concern and a preliminary police probe into the basic circumstances surrounding the death.
“The team, which comprises seasoned homicide detectives, has been tasked to aggregate all allegations, suspicions and insinuations from various sources on the death of the singer.
“The team is to undertake a professional, diligent and timely investigation with a view to establishing facts, clearing all doubts and ensuring that justice is manifestly served through a meticulous process that will deploy all requisite protocols (which may include exhumation),” he said.
According to the image creator, the Lagos State government has offered its full cooperation to the special investigation team in all means necessary to ensure a thorough inquiry.
Mr Hundeyin stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu offered the guarantee while consulting with the state police chief earlier on Saturday on how to best ensure that the case was handled speedily and justice was served promptly.
He stated that an appeal has been made to the deceased’s relatives, friends, business associates, or anyone with helpful information that could aid the investigation to please share it with the state CID’s homicide division at phone number 08036885727.
“The Lagos State Police Command assures that progress of the investigation will, as much as legally and professionally permissible, be shared with the general public accordingly,” he said.
On Tuesday, music fans were shocked to learn of the singer’s death at the age of 27.
