BREAKING: Tribunal upholds victory of Peter Mbah as Governor of Enugu State

On Thursday, the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Enugu State affirmed the election of Governor Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to Platinum Times, Barr Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, LP, has disputed Mbah’s election.

Edeoga’s suit focused on Mbah’s alleged forging of a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, certificate, election irregularities, and over-voting, among other things.

Justice Kudirat Morayo Akano, the panel’s chairman, dismissed the petition in favor of the respondent, Mbah.

Edeoga’s appeal to disqualify Mbah for alleged falsification of a NYSC certificate was denied.

According to Section 177 of the 1999 Constitution, a NYSC certificate is not required to run for governor, according to the panel.

It found that Mbah did not submit his NYSC certificate to INEC in support of his qualification to run for governor because he was already eligible without it.

The Tribunal also dismissed charges of over-voting and BVAS bypassing.

The tribunal further stated that the witnesses provided by the Labour Party were not properly accredited by INEC and that their evidence was therefore invalid.

It was determined that Mbah was legitimately elected governor by a majority of lawful and valid votes cast during the election.

It had also dismissed earlier in the day the petition submitted by People’s Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate Elder Christopher Agu.
