Breaking: Court orders Kano gov to pay N30bn for demolition

A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered the Kano State Government to pay the Incorporated Trustees of Massallacin Eid Shop Owners N30 billion in compensation for the unlawful demolition of their businesses without following the proper legal procedures.

In June, the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration razed commercial malls near Kano Eid Ground, citing the buildings as illegal structures.

The shopkeepers, however, filed a Federal High Court challenge to the demolition under the aegis of the Incorporated Trustees of Massallacin Eid Shop Owners.

The sitting court, Justice Samuel Amobeda, also stated on Friday that the Kano State Government’s action against the Applicants is inhumane and unlawful.
