Embattled Emee Oil CEO, Florence Onojame arraigned over N4.4bn Fraud

Emee Oil CEO is arraigned by the EFCC of defrauding Access Bank of a staggering N4.4 billion.

According to Platinum Times, Florence Onojame, the CEO of Emee Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, has been charged with allegedly cheating Access Bank of N4.4 billion. She was brought before the Ikeja special crimes court.

According to information collected by this Nigeria News portal, Onojame was charged with three counts, including conspiracy, theft, and receiving goods gained fraudulently, on Thursday.

Onojame and four other people (who are still at large), according to EFCC counsel Fatai Mohammed, are accused of committing the crime in Lagos in February 2022.

According to the EFCC counsel, Onojame stole the N4.4 billion and transferred it via Access Bank’s Primusplus electronic banking network.

The anti-graft attorney added that she made the transfer using her Emee Oil and Gas login information and put the funds into a number of Access Bank accounts.

However, Onojame entered a not guilty plea to the allegations, which the EFCC claimed violated sections 278, 326, and 409 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Williams Onate, the defense attorney, asked the judge to grant a brief postponement so that the bail application may be heard during the court proceedings.

In addition, Onate requested that the defendant be held in the EFCC’s custody pending the bail hearing.

However, Mojisola Dada, the judge, decided that the accused should remain in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility.

The bail application hearing was postponed until October 10, 2023.
