BREAKING: President Tinubu appoints Clifford Oparaodu ICPC Secretary

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Clifford Oparaodu as Secretary of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

This is in keeping with the President’s authority under Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act of 2000, as well as the mandate of Renewed Hope to reform important institutions and reenergize Nigeria’s fight against corruption.

Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, as chairman and chief executive officer, and Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, as secretary to the commission, are the new ICPC appointees.

According to a statement from Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, the Nigerian Senate has recommended the new chairman for confirmation.

This comes after the President granted the retiring chairman’s request to take a leave of absence before his term ends on February 3, 2024, starting on November 4, 2023.

But because the position of secretary of the commission is not subject to Senate approval, Oparaodu’s appointment as secretary of the panel is effective right away per the President’s order.

Aliyu, who holds a legal doctorate and is designated as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, carried out extensive changes while serving as Jigawa State’s attorney general.

Oparaodu, a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, has rendered honorable public service as the chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council and a member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission.

The ICPC’s new management team was urged by the president to always act honestly and impartially as they carry out their responsibilities in regard to all things at hand.
