Sen. Oyelola Ashiru succeeds Dave Umahi as Deputy Senate Leader

Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, revealed during plenary on Wednesday that Senator Lola Ashiru has been appointed as the Senate’s new Deputy Leader.
Ashiru, who represents Kwara North in the red chamber, takes over for Senator Dave Umahi, who has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu as Minister of Works.
Senator Ashiru was once the Senate’s Deputy Whip, a position presently held by Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, who represents Eebonyi North.
Meanwhile, the candidates for the Chairman and Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede and Muhammad Hammajoda, are being reviewed and confirmed by the Senate.
This follows their appointment as chair and secretary to the commission by President Bola Tinubu on October 12, 2023, subject to Senate confirmation.
