List of 7 Supreme Court Judges that will deliver verdict on Atiku, Obi’s appeal against Tinubu
To hear the appeal in the petitions filed by three presidential candidates contesting the results of the February 25 election, the Supreme Court has convened a seven-member panel of Justices.
Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and Chichi Ojei of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) all received notices of the hearing.
According to Order 2 Rule 1(2) of the Supreme Court’s Rules 1985, as amended, the notices signed by Zainab M. Garba in the registrar’s office are judged to have been sufficiently served on the parties.
Justices Adamu Jauro, Uwani Musa Abba Aji, Lawal Garba, Helen M. Ogunwumiju, I.N. Saulawa, Tijjani Abubakar, and Emmanuel Agim are on the list of members of the panel who will hear the appeals.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to transmit the results from the polling units to the IREV using BVAS as provided in its laws and guidelines, according to Atiku, who argued in his appeal that the Presidential Election Petitions Court erred in dismissing his petition on the grounds that the petitioners had failed to prove allegations of irregularities in the presidential election, the 25 percent requirement in the FCT, the forfeiture of $60,000, and the failure of the INEC to do so.
Atiku also asked for permission to submit Tinubu’s allegedly faked academic records in the motion made by his lawyer Chris Uche (SAN).
Obi, for his side, claims that the tribunal’s rejection of the muddled results from his 18,088 voting places constituted an injustice.
In her petition, Ojei of the APM claims that Tinubu and Kashim Shettima were disqualified due to improper nominations for the positions.
However, in his responses, Tinubu asked the court to rule that Atiku’s plea was unjustified and an abuse of the legal system with the assistance of his attorney, Wole Olanipekun (SAN).
Obi’s appeal was referred to by Tinubu as a jamboree and without merit.
