Just In: Abducted NSUK lecturer Comfort Adokwe regains freedom

Dr. Comfort Adokwe, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University, was kidnapped on Sunday but has since been released.

According to Platinum Times, gunmen seized Adokwe, a lecturer at the university’s Faculty of Administration and the school’s deputy director for gender studies, on Sunday night from her home in Angwan Jaba in Keffi.

The discharge was confirmed by Comfort’s brother Timothy Adokwe over the phone with Platinum Times.

“Yes, she was released around 8:30,” he said.

He said the kidnappers initially sought a N100million ransom.

He attested to the fact that the family had made an undisclosed payment to obtain her freedom.

Though they were unable to approach Comfort to prevent injury, Timothy praised the military and the Department of State Services, or DSS, for their assistance in securing his sister’s release. They kept an eye on things via satellite.

“Actually, the police were not there, but the military and the DSS were involved, but at the outskirts because they tried to monitor from their satellite and know the location, but you know, they can’t just enter directly,” he said.

Adokwe stated that his sister is OK and has rejoined with her husband and daughter. He said that she was brought to an unnamed hospital for a medical examination.

He pleaded with the authorities to make sure development reaches some regions where kidnappers predominate.

He claimed that the identical spot was used to rescue the university’s vice chancellor who had been abducted in the past.
