Ghana MP Isaac Adongo apologises to Maguire

On Tuesday, a Ghanaian Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, apologized to Manchester United defender Harry Maguire for comparing him to the country’s vice president, Mahamudu Bawumia, and characterizing them as poor performances, according to BBC Africa.

Adongo has chastised the VP for the country’s low economic performance in 2022.

He compared the VP to Maguire’s terrible performance as a player who scores own goals.

However, during a budget debate in parliament on Tuesday, Adongo declared Maguire a “transformational footballer,” adding that the VP now “roams at the IMF with a cup in hand.”

Adongo said,

“Mr. Speaker, I now apologise to Harry Maguire. Today, Harry Maguire has turned the corner and he is a transformational footballer.

“[Harry Maguire] is now a key player for Manchester but as for our Maguire [Mr Bawumia] he is now roaming at the IMF with a cup in hand,” the MP added.

He criticized Bawumia’s performance as vice president and chairman of Ghana’s Economic Management Team, saying it had increased the country’s debt and jeopardized its economic performance.

According to BBC Africa, Ghana is currently experiencing its worst economic crisis in a generation. Last year, the inflation rate reached a record high of 54% and is still higher than 35%.
