Alexander-Arnold’s late equaliser seals point for Liverpool against Man City
Liverpool earned a point against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium thanks to a late equalizer by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In a game that did not reach the heights of previous meetings between the major domestic powers, reigning champions City took the lead when Erling Haaland capitalized on Liverpool goalie Alisson’s bad clearance.
It made him the fastest player in Premier League history to hit 50 goals – in his 48th match – and gave City a lead they would not relinquish until the final minutes.
Ruben Dias believed he had added City’s second goal, only to have it called out for a foul on Alisson, before Alexander-Arnold punished Pep Guardiola’s team for failing to kill off Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold struggled defensively as he tried to restrict the lively Jeremy Doku, but he showed his quality 10 minutes from time with a clean, low strike from the edge of the area that gave Ederson no chance.
City remain top of the standings, but may see this as a squandered opportunity, while Liverpool will be content with a draw.
