COP28 climate summit: Tinubu to dapart Nigeria for Dubai, Wednesday

In order to attend the COP28 Climate Summit, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to leave Abuja on Wednesday and go to Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Known as the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28), the summit is officially named the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference.
President Tinubu will give a national statement at the World Leaders’ Summit, which is focused on the theme of “Unite, Act, and Deliver” and will cover a number of thematic problems, such as renewable energy and climate financing. The summit is scheduled for December 1 and 2, 2023.

President Tinubu will take full advantage of the platform to push for more financial and technical assistance for developing countries, keeping in mind the serious effects of climate change on Nigeria, including risks to national security, erosion, flooding, and desertification.
Taking advantage of the occasion, Tinubu will remind developed nations of their commitment to donate $100 billion a year to fund regional efforts aimed at tackling climate change.
Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable and responsible practices will be reflected in the President’s speech, which will also emphasize keeping institutions and corporations accountable.

The delegation from Nigeria to COP28 will be actively involved in the process of forging deeper and new bilateral partnerships in order to carry out the country’s Energy Transition, Article 6 Projects, Technology Transfer, Capacity Building, and Methane Mitigation initiatives.

Along with other events organized by the Nigerian delegation, President Tinubu will actively participate in significant side events while in Dubai, which will further support the advancement of his declared commitment to aggressively attract foreign direct investment for enhanced wealth creation and revenue expansion in the nation.

According to a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, the President is anticipated to travel to Abuja following the summit, escorted by high-ranking government officials.
