The Nigeria Football Federation’s President, Ibrahim Gusau, has pledged that the Video Assistant Referee will be introduced into the Nigeria Football League.
In football matches, VAR is a system that assists referees in making better decisions about player fouls, whether a goal was genuine, and red card decisions.
Gusau made the assurance during the inaugural NPFL management and staff retreat in Abuja.
He stated that the NFF will begin the process of implementing VAR in Nigerian football by sending some referees to nations that have already implemented VAR to study its implementation and usage.
“I can assure you that VAR will be effectively put into use in our domestic football before the end of my first tenure as president of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2026. It will be gradual, but we will surely get there,” Gusau stated.
