Budget of re-engineering: Gov Fintiri presents 2024 appropriation bill to Adamawa Assembly

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has submitted the Adamawa State House of Assembly with a N225.8 billion budget proposal for the fiscal year 2024.

Fintiri, who tabled the Appropriation Bill before the Assembly on Friday, stated that the ‘Budget of Reengineering’ includes N111.3 billion, or 49.3 percent, for recurrent services and N114.5 billion, or 50.7 percent, for capital spending.

Fintiri told state lawmakers that the budget, which is slightly larger than the N214.2 billion for 2023, is intended to build on the government’s previous accomplishments.

Before laying the budget proposal on the floor of the House of Assembly, Fintiri explained that it is based on Statutory Allocation of N68.047 billion, VAT share of N47.7 billion, exchange rate difference of N16 billion, non-oil revenue of N6.6 billion, and internally generated revenue of N22.2 billion, among other things.

Fintiri informed legislators that his cabinet will continue to ensure that some of the state’s untapped sources of internally generated revenue are harnessed and appropriately exploited in order to achieve improved budget financing.

Bathiya Wesley, Speaker of the State Assembly, responded to the governor’s address by pledging that the Appropriation Bill would be passed as soon as possible.
