Why Tinubu’s intervention is needless in Rivers, Ondo — Fashola

Former Works Minister, Babatunde Fashola, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the recent political crises in Ondo and Rivers states is unnecessary.

Fashola announced this over the weekend at the Honorary Members Forum (HMF) 2023 Annual Lecture of the Nigerian Air Force Officers Mess in Lagos, claiming that the constitution does not allow for such.

Despite calls for the president to intervene, he stated that the Constitution clearly states the necessary procedures and functions of officials in such instances.

The former minister praised the “blue blood Ondo indigenes” who fought for law and order during their state’s recent crisis before the governor’s letter restored order.

“Fortunately, some blue-blood Ondo indigenes have stood up to be counted in our Ondo case.” “However, they are clearly in the minority,” he remarked.

The former Lagos governor stated that the “leadership in Rivers State” must also “do the needful” in the future.

Instead of wrongly demanding presidential action, Fashola stressed that citizens must also be accountable.

“We have amended the constitution, so what is left to amend, except ourselves?” he concluded.
