Rivers crisis: Amadi Chidi, Wike’s ally, steps down as Fubara’s chief of staff

The chief of staff to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Chidi Amadi, has tendered his resignation.

Joseph Johnson, the state’s commissioner of information and communications, confirmed the resignation to reporters on Wednesday and stated that the governor will choose a replacement when it was suitable.

He said,

“The former Chief of Staff, Hon Chidi Amadi, has resigned. The governor will announce another Chief of Staff at the appropriate time.

“It is the prerogative of the governor to appoint when he wants it. He will tell us and we will announce it and you will also get the release to that effect.”

Before he was appointed as the Chief of Staff, Amadi, who is from the same Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state with Wike, was the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the LGA, and a known ally of the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT, minister.

Amadi’s resignation brings to 10 the number of principal members of the Fubara cabinet who have parted ways with him as a result of the rift between the governor and his former political godfather, Wike.
