JUST IN: Supreme Court reserves judgment on Rivers guber election

Additionally, after being withdrawn by his attorney, Innocent Kere of the Allied People's Movement (APM) had his appeal dismissed by the supreme court.

In the appeal filed by All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Patrick Tonye-Cole against Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara’s victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election, the Supreme Court has deferred ruling.

The case of Mr. Tonye-Cole stems from the Appeal Court’s ruling on November 28, which rejected his appeal due to a lack of substantial and persuasive evidence.

The APC candidate for governor claims that Fubara continued to sign documents in his capacity as Rivers State’s accountant general even after the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) nominated him for governor due to anomalies and violations of the Electoral Act.

The PDP, Governor Fubara, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the electoral body are all targets of Patrick Tonye-Cole’s petition.

After the parties to the lawsuit adopted their briefs of arguments, a five-member panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun reserved decision on the appeal.

Following its withdrawal by his attorney, Innocent Kere of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) had his appeal denied by the supreme court as well.
