Troops eliminate three top leaders, 43 terrorists, others in Borno

On January 10, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that its air component of Operation Hadin Kai had killed three top commanders of the Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist group in Borno.

Maj.-Gen. Edward Baba, Director of Defence Media activities, offered the assurance during the weekly update on the armed forces’ activities in Abuja on Friday.

According to Buba, the air strikes targeted and destroyed the three leaders, Abou Maimuna, Abou Zahra, and Commander Saleh, who were in a canoe with their lieutenants.

He stated that during other operations this week, forces neutralised 43 more terrorists, with 76 of them detained and 27 kidnapped hostages recovered.

He stated that the military recovered 81 different weapons, 2,150 different ammo, and N1.2 million, among other things.

In the South-South region, Buba stated that Operation Delta Safe troops captured 29 oil thieves and denied them an estimated N131.1 million this week.

He stated that the troops uncovered and destroyed seven dugout trenches, 13 boats, 23 storage tanks, two barges, four vehicles, 15 cooking ovens, two pump machines, and 16 illegal refining facilities.

According to him, forces seized 139,045 liters of stolen crude oil, 25,115 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 5,200 litres of DPK.

The armed forces will always be mindful of the threat by kidnapping gangs and terrorists across the country.

“Accordingly, we will continually review our internal processes in order to deal with these threats both now and in the long term.

“The military is determined to give the situation the seriousness it deserves so as to create a safer environment for citizens,” he said
