Insecurity in FCT: Senate set to summon Wike

Following the deteriorating security situation in Abuja, the Senate has announced intentions to summon FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Senator Ireti Kingibe of the FCT stated this on Sunday during a Channels TV broadcast about the security crisis raging in the capital city.

She stated that when the Senate resumes plenary, the Minister will be asked to explain his plan to address the security problem.

Senator Kingibe, who was elected on the Labour Party’s (LP) platform, criticized the recent increase in kidnapping, murder, and other criminal activity in the nation’s capital.

“It is not that I am hoping. I know he will be summoned. But whether he responds or not is a different matter entirely. But as the chief security officer of the FCT, he should have a plan.

“He should be able to tell us, the committee, and specifically me, that this is the plan for protecting the people of the FCT. Between him, the police commissioner, and the head of the DSS, they must have a plan”, the Senator said.

The lawmaker further disclosed that there is a “disconnect” between her and the FCT Minister, accusing the latter of ignoring her messages and letters in the wake of insecurity in the area.
