EPL: Salah returns to training ahead of City clash
Mohamed Salah is back in full training with Liverpool ahead of their potential title match against Manchester City on Sunday.
The Egyptian has made only two appearances for the Reds in 2024, scoring twice in a 4-2 win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day and once after coming off the bench in a 4-1 win against Brentford on February 17.
Salah suffered a hamstring injury after that game in west London, ending his Africa Cup of Nations tournament in January, and he has had to watch on in recent weeks as Liverpool won the Carabao Cup, advanced to the FA Cup, and maintained their strong league form.
He could potentially be ready to return to action in Thursday evening’s Europa League last-16 meeting with Sparta Prague in the Czech capital, after being seen with his teammates in a full session at Liverpool’s Kirkby facility yesterday.
Salah was put through his paces alongside Dominik Szoboszlai and Darwin Nunez, who both returned from injuries in last weekend’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, with Nunez scoring a thrilling late winner.
Caoimhin Kelleher also participated fully in the workout, despite some social media rumors about his injury circulating on Tuesday. In place of the injured Alisson Becker, the Irishman will continue to play in goal for the Reds.
Salah’s comeback to the first team will be good news for Jurgen Klopp ahead of the game against City, however it remains to be seen whether he will be risked for the trip to Czechia.
When asked about his fitness last week, Klopp stated, “It is day by day with Mo.” It’s a comparable location where he feels some weariness. We’ll have to see how it progresses. It’s not crazy, but we’ll see.”
