Dr. Dayo Mobereola has been appointed Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency for a four-year term that can be renewed.
Mr. Mobereola succeeds Mr. Bashir Jamoh, whose term ended recently.
His appointment was announced on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement headed ‘President Tinubu selects new NIMASA Director-General.’
Mobereola earned his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Transport Economics at the University of Wales in the United Kingdom.
He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport in England and Nigeria.
From 2003 to 2015, he served as Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, and from 2015 to 2016, he was Commissioner of Transportation in Lagos State.
He formerly worked as Deputy Managing Director and Project Development Director for AFM Consulting Plc in London.
Mobereola also worked as a Senior Economist with British Petroleum Shipping Limited in London.
The President anticipates that the new Director-General will “bring his vast experience to bear in his new role and achieve the mandate of NIMASA in providing world-leading standards of maritime safety administration, maritime labour regulation, marine pollution prevention and control, and search and rescue,” according to the statement.
Furthermore, Tinubu anticipates that Mobereola will enhance “cabotage enforcement, shipping development and ship registration, in accordance with the policies and programmes of his Renewed Hope Agenda for the sector as guided by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.”
