President Bola Tinubu has appointed Brigadier-General Lawal Isa (retd.) as the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Child Education.

Sha’aban Sharada, the commission’s pioneer head since its inception in May 2023, is succeeded by Isa.

His appointment was announced in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, and captioned “President Tinubu appoints Executive Secretary of National Commission for Almajiri Education and aide on Chieftaincy Matters.”

Former President Muhammadu Buhari signed the National Commission for Almajiri and Out of School Children Education Bill 2023 on May 28, 2023, and named Sharada, the outgoing Member of the House of Representatives for Kano Municipal, as its Executive Secretary.

The President has also authorized Tijani Abbas’ appointment as his Senior Special Assistant on Chieftaincy Matters.

Isa was the Military Administrator of Kaduna State from 1993 to 1996, and Abbas is the Sarkin Sudan Kano.

The president is hopeful that the newly appointed officials will “bring their vast experience into these important roles, which impact the very core of society, while ensuring that his administration’s drive to guarantee Nigeria’s out-of-school children the most comprehensive education is realized in the superceding interest of the nation’s future,” he said.
