Abandoned newborn baby found inside carton in Jigawa farm

On Sunday morning, a newborn baby abandoned on a farm in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa Stare was found alive.

A farmer working on his field discovered the infant boy inside a carton and immediately contacted the village head of Wurya in Gwaram Tsohuwa about the occurrence.

According to Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram, the personal assistant to the chairman of Gwaram Local Government, the infant was taken to the Divisional Police Officer of Gwaram LGA before being taken to the hospital, where he was certified healthy.

According to him, the infant was returned to the local government chairman, Zaharaddeen Abubakar, who immediately demanded that a lady who could care for him be found.

Rukayya Aliyu, who offered to care for the newborn, did so with the permission of her husband, Wurya district head Malam Aminu Abdul-Hamid.

The infant was then christened Zaharadden, after the LGA chairman, and his new family named him Aminu, giving him the full name Zaharaddeen Aminu Gwaram.

Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram further revealed that the local government chairman has promised a monthly allowance for the caregiver, as well as other required assistance, at least till the conclusion of his stint as chairman of Gwaram Local Government Area.
