Abia Govt. break silence on sacking of Doctor
The false rumor that the Abia State Government has dismissed all physicians from the state public sector has been refuted by Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, the state’s commissioner for health.
The reported dismissal is “only a figment of the authors’ imagination,” the Commissioner claims, adding that “the government has no intention of dismissing or disengaging any doctor or health personnel currently working to support our ongoing efforts to revive the health sector in the state.”
Additionally, she insisted that nobody had received a request to submit a “fresh expression of interest,” as instructed by the fictitious circular.
Dr. Okoronkwo asked medical professionals and the general public to disregard the rumor and support the government’s numerous initiatives aimed at advancing the provision of holistic healthcare in the state.
Since her employment in the Otti administration, first as Special Adviser on Health Care Delivery, the Commissioner has taken a number of practical efforts aimed at restoring the state’s health sector.
After her involvement, health workers promptly resumed work after calling off their six-month protest.
Speaking on Saturday at the launch of the Ministry’s free medical services at Aba General Hospital, the Health Commissioner noted that the days of owing medical professionals their entitlements were long gone because the governor now prioritized the timely payment of workers’ salaries and benefits.
She is now leading the Dr. Otti administration’s initiatives to renovate deteriorated healthcare facilities all around the state.
