Aisha Yesufu speaks on what should happen to lawmakers who dumped YPP for LP in Abia

Aisha Yesufu, a human rights activist, believes the two members of the Abia State House of Assembly who just defected to the Labour Party should also be prepared to give up their seats.

Platinum Times reports that two Abia lawmakers from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) defected to the Labour Party on Tuesday.

The defectors, Mr Iheanacho Nwogu, representing Osisioma North State Constituency, and Mr Fine Ahuama, representing Osisioma South State Constituency, were received into the state’s ruling party by Governor Alex Otti.

Reacting, Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the Labour Party and a staunch supporter of the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, frowned at the lawmaker’s moves.

Sharing the news of the detection on her official X handle, she wrote, “Hope they are ready to also lose their seats. This nonsense where people are voted on a party ticket and then decamp to join the ruling party needs to be punished by the law.

“You should have the right to decamp, but you must forfeit the seat you won on another platform.”
