Akpabio, Abass issued 7 days ultimatum to halt N110bn on bulletproof cars, others

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbass, and the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, have been contacted by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), asking them to stop spending N110 billion on palliative care and bulletproof automobiles for lawmakers.

The group announced this in a statement released on Sunday by Kolawole Oluwadare, its deputy director.

President Bola Ahmed Tibubu was requested by SERAP to draft a new supplementary appropriations bill without the N110 billion for automobiles and support for MPs.

The group emphasized that N110 billion may be used to solve the issue of children who are not attending school.

The purported act was labeled a breach of public trust by SERAP.

“Repeal the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Act to reduce the budget for the National Assembly by N110bn, reflect the current economic realities in the country and address the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy on the over 137 million poor Nigerians.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should present a fresh supplementary appropriation bill, to redirect the N110 billion to address the situation of the over 20 million out-of-school children in Nigeria, for the approval of the National Assembly”, SERAP stated.
