Angry protesters storm Chevron office in Delta

Protesters have forced the closure of Chevron’s Escravos Gas To Liquid (EGTL) plant in Delta State.

On Tuesday, irate protestors from Ugborodo village, Warri South Local Government Area, shut down the plant, accusing the corporation of alleged non-implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and other demands.

Protesters demanded, among other things, that Chevron implement Ikpere-HCDT as negotiated with NUPRC. They also stated that “superintendents now employ their families rather than jobless indigenous people.”

Some demonstrators accused Chevron of not following host community rules and regulations, while others said the firm “cannot employ only the 2019/2020 section of workers in the ongoing turnaround maintenance.”
