Annual Recess: Reps to resume sitting on September 26
Following its annual recess, the House of Representatives has announced that it will reconvene on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, to continue the first legislative year of the 10th Assembly.
Akin Rotimi, the House spokesperson, said in a statement issued on Friday that the information had been relayed to MPs by Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the House clerk.
The 10th Assembly took a break on Thursday, July 27, 2023, following a plenary session in which the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the leadership of the House’s standing committees.
The 10th Assembly has been quite productive in its first 100 days, recording the first reading of 470 measures, with four passing the second reading. The House also debated 175 motions.
Rotimi said:
“Some of the key early developments expected on resumption are the conclusion of the work of all ad hoc committees and the submission of their reports for the consideration of the House, in line with the directives of the Rt. Honourable Speaker.
“It is also expected that the final draft of the Legislative Agenda, developed by the ad hoc committee led by House Leader, Hon. Prof. Julius Inhonvbere, will be considered and adopted by the House. The draft agenda was developed following extensive consultations with critical stakeholders. In the same vein, soon after the resumption, it is anticipated that the membership of the standing committees will be announced and fully constituted.”
