(Enugu) Aninri/Awgu/Oji constituency: Appeal Court sacks Chijioke Okereke, affirms Anayo Onwuegbu’s election

Chijioke Okereke, a member of the Labour Party who represented the Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency, has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
Okereke’s appeal against his earlier dismissal by the Enugu State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal was denied by the court.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s Anayo Onwuegbu was declared the legitimate winner of the election by the tribunal, and the Court found that there was insufficient evidence to support the appeal against this decision in a ruling on Monday.
According to Platinum Times, the tribunal dismissed Okereke and confirmed Onwuegbu as the legitimate winner of the ballot held on February 25.
Onwuegbu had gone to the tribunal to contest Okereke’s declaration, arguing that since his name was not listed on the Labour Party’s candidate file, he was unfamiliar with the election.
