Assemblies of God couple whose wedding was cancelled over pregnancy ties the knot in another church
Friends and family members of a man whose wedding was cancelled by his church in Aba, Abia State, have applauded his bravery in proceeding with the ceremony in another church.
Mr Israel Kennedy was to marry his wife, former Miss Rose, in an Assemblies of God Church on 158 Ikot Ekpene road in Aba, but the wedding was called off after the church found she was pregnant just hours before the wedding.
This prompted the church’s board to cancel the wedding in accordance with the church’s founding statutes, which strictly prohibit pregnancy before marriage.
The church also suspended and penalized Israel Kennedy and his lover for violating church law.
The cancellation devastated the couple and their guests because they had already spent a significant amount of money planning the wedding and reception.
But, with the help of his friends, family members, and in-laws, Mr Kennedy and his bride were able to establish a new church in Enyimba, where they were married.
Based on its own constitution, the new church (name withheld) agreed to marry the guy and his wife.
After the customary marriage procedures have been completed, such couples are married by the church.
According to a friend of the couple, Uche Simeon,
“the man and his wife are now happy that they have become husband and wife.
“The embarrassment of last Sunday has been wiped away and they are not even bothered about any more sanctions from their original church.”
