Assault: Man United release club statement on Anthony

Following the international break, Manchester United has confirmed that Antony won’t be joining the team due to assault charges.

Gabriela Cavallin, Antony’s ex-girlfriend, alleges that the footballer abused her four times.

The 23-year-old was also accused of physical assault by Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana, two more women in Brazil.

Brazil benched Antony for their World Cup qualifying match against Bolivia, and United has followed suit.

“Man Utd acknowledges the allegations made against Antony. He will delay his return until further notice in order to address the allegations.

“As a club we condemn acts of violence and abuse”.

In his own statement, Antony said: “I have agreed with United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me.

“This was a mutual decision.

“I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, I will fully cooperate with the police”.
