Bandits kidnap Zamfara community leader, Chief Imam, demand N5m

On Monday, gunmen suspected of being bandits kidnapped Magaji Sa,idu, the village chief of Rakyabu in Zamfara State’s Tsafe Local Government Area, and Malam Abdullahi, the community’s Chief Imam.

According to a local, the bandits raided the village on Monday night and took the community leaders from their houses.

He claimed that the bandits sought N5 million in ransom, but the community could only generate N500,000 (five hundred thousand Naira).

“The N500,000 was raised through donations by the people of the village who wanted to rescue their village head and the Chief Imam. The bandits have collected the money but refused to release the victims.

“They collected the money and told us that we must pay the remaining balance which is N4.5 million,” he lamented.

He called on the relevant authorities to come immediately for the rescue of the victims.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report.
