The Access to Higher Education Act, also referred to as the Students Loan Law and recently approved by President Bola Tinubu, has a new implementation deadline set by the Federal Government, or FG.
Since the bill was passed into law in June, many Nigerians have condemned its adoption, viewing it as a cover for the imposition of tuition fees in the nation’s postsecondary institutions.
Although there was opposition to its execution, Andrew Adejoh, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, said at the time that it will start in September.
The implementation, however, has not begun as Mr. Adejoh had said.
But Mr. Tinubu stated that the loan scheme “must commence” in January 2024 when speaking at the 29th National Economic Summit on Monday.
More to come..
