On Saturday, suspected political thugs disrupted the coalition of results of the All Progressives Congress’s primary election for governorship in Edo State.
The results were compiled at the Lushville Hotel and Suite in GRA, Benin, and broadcast live on television.
The results from eight local hovernment areas had already been announced when media covering the event were told to leave the event center.
Before journalists could gather their belongings, the thugs stormed on the site, having overpowered the police officers at the entry.
Several journalists, including an NTA cameraman and an FRCN reporter, were physically assaulted, and their equipment was scattered.
The presence of the state Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adeboye, along with party leaders at the centre, did not discourage the hoodlums from partaking in the free-for-all.
At the time of filing this report, it was unclear what went wrong.
