Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the first civilian governor of Abia State and the most recent Minister of Science and Technology, has reportedly passed away.
News of his alleged death was broken by US-based journalist and one-time presidential media aide, Jackson Udeh, who tweeted early this Thursday, April 11, 2024:
“First Governor of Abia State, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has passed on this morning in an Abuja hospital. Good Night, Dr. Onu. May your soul Rest In Peace. Amen!”

A former chairman of the now defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), the 72 years old Onu was resigned a minister to unsuccessfully seek the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) last year.
