BREAKING: Tinubu’s Minister, others escape death as private jet crash lands in Ibadan

At Ibadan Airport in the Alakia neighborhood of the state capital of Oyo, passengers in a privately owned aircraft narrowly escaped death on Friday evening, November 3, 2023, when their aircraft went off the runway and into the woods.

Men from the Federal Fire Services, State Fire Services, and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Fire Services collaborated to stop the situation; no recorded loss of life or property occurred.

The plane, which took off at 6:41 p.m. from Abuja, was carrying a number of senior government officials.

On board the plane were Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, and a few of his assistants.

At 7:21 p.m., the crash-landing happened, involving ten people on board. The pilot was reportedly given the all-clear to make an RNAV approach to Runway 22 at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan. However, the aircraft veered off the runway.

The safe evacuation of all passengers and crew members was made possible by prompt and effective action.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the State Fire Service, Yemi Adeyimika said:

“Yes, it is true, our men are on their way but I don’t have details now.”

He said that his men arrived the scene of the incident on time but met other fire services from other agencies on ground.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an inquest.

In a statement, the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, NSIB, James Odaudu, confirmed the accident.

He said:

“Please, be informed that the NSIB has commenced an investigation into the cause.”
