Buhari’s Minister ignores EFCC summons over alleged N37 billion fraud
Sadiya Umar-Farouq, former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, refused to accept an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to investigate an alleged N37.1 billion laundered through a contractor, James Okwete, during her tenure in office.
According to Platinum Times, the former Minister was scheduled to appear before EFCC interrogators at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday around 10:00 a.m.
However, an EFCC source who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated that Sadiya Umar-Farouq declined the Commission’s invitation on Wednesday.
“We just closed from work now because she didn’t show up today, and it’s 6 pm already. It’s certain that she’s never going to show up today”.
The news came just 24 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu banned Halima Shehu, national coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, for her role in the fraud.
As a result, the EFCC arrested Halima Shehu.
