Burna Boy break silence on mum’s relationship with legendary Fela

Burna Boy, a Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, has implied that despite making his home nation proud “every chance” he gets, Nigerians don’t thank him enough.

He claimed that instead of appreciating his priceless musical achievements to Nigeria, Nigerians propagated rumors that his mother was a dancer for the late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti, and that impotence may be the cause of his lack of a baby mama, unlike most of his contemporaries.

Burna Boy also criticized Nigerians for speculating that the incident on June 8, 2022, in which his police escorts allegedly shot at one Ms. Steph Briella, her partner, and her best friend at Club Cubana in Victoria Island, Lagos, was because he wanted to steal her from her partner. Burna Boy’s maternal grandfather, Benson Idonije, was Fela Kuti’s first manager.

On “Thanks,” a J.Cole feature from his seventh studio album, “I Told Them,” which was released on Thursday night, the self-described “African Giant” made this statement.

He sings:

“Is this the m*ing thanks I get for making my people proud, every chance I get?

“It’s okay, I get. This Naija no love.

“They say my mama dance for Fela.

“They say I no get baby mama.

“They say I shoot person for Cubana because I want collect person woman…
Is this the m***ing thanks I get? For making my people proud, every chance I get.”
