DAY ONE: NLC massive protest in Abuja in photos
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has launched a nationwide demonstration against the country’s high cost of living on February 27 and 28 in Abuja.
The NLC had alerted its members in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to protest the hardships that civil officials in Nigeria are facing.
Platinum Times reports that on February 8, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government for failing to implement the agreements reached on October 2 following the withdrawal of gasoline subsidies.
However, as Nigerians continue to face economic hardship, the union decided to stage a two-day nationwide protest to stress their demands.
Despite a security alert from the Department of State Services (DSS), the union launched the protest in various cities around the country.
In the early hours of Tuesday, angry Nigerians and workers were spotted marching inside Labour House with security personnel.
