Delta govt considers N12 billion monthly IGR
Delta State government wants to create N12 billion in internal revenue per month.
Dr. Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Head of Delta Orientation Bureau and the Governor of Delta State’s Executive Assistant on Orientation and Communications, made the announcement on Saturday.
According to him, the government is launching a multidimensional campaign to educate the public about the legal ramifications of tax evasion.
Oghenesivbe stated that the bureau would collaborate with the State Internal Revenue Services to spearhead the campaign in order to meet the government’s goal of collecting N12 billion or more per month next year.
“We are committed and ready to partner with government agencies and organizations to drive the MORE agenda of Governor Oborevwori through strategic campaigns that touch on government policies and programmes as well as to emphasize the need for citizens to perform their civic responsibilities, such as payment of taxes to the government as at when due.
“We hope to partner with the State Internal Revenue Services to drive the campaign against tax evasion and avoidance, reach out to our schools and the mass media to also sensitize our people and youth on the need to stay away from crime, avoid drug abuse and other societal ills.
“The lofty programmes encapsulated in the MORE agenda are such that they touch on all segments, sectors, and social strata, including job and health creation programmes that would transform our street boys and girls to the enviable status of good boys, girls, and successful entrepreneurs.
“Tax evasion and avoidance is a serious criminal offence which must be discouraged; payment of taxes is an integral part of citizens civic responsibility to the state,” he said.
