Edo 2024: Shaibu has the right to run, party members will decide his fate – Obaseki

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has revealed that his deputy, Philip Shaibu, has the constitutional right to run for governor in 2024.

Obaseki, on the other hand, stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will decide whether or not Shaibu will be the party’s flag bearer.

Shaibu officially proclaimed his intention to run for governor of the state on Monday.

After proclaiming his interest, Shaibu stated that no one could stop him and that he would defeat Obaseki’s announced candidacy.

He mentioned this during a disagreement with Obaseki, but the two had settled their dispute.

However, addressing journalists on Thursday, Obaseki said:

“The relationship as you know, has been cordial. He (Philip) wants to run for the office I currently occupy and he is free to.

“I think as a Nigerian, he has the constitutional right to run; nobody can or should stop him.

“The party will decide and also members of the party will decide who will be the flag bearer of the party in the forthcoming governorship election.”
