Edo Reps member escapes death in Abuja-bound road crash

Representative Marcus Onobun almost escaped death in an accident while traveling to Abuja.

Onobun, who was the most recent Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, suffered injuries in the accident, according to Tony Aziegbemi, the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, who confirmed this to our correspondent on Friday. Onobun was hospitalized at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

When Aziegbemi visited Onobun in the hospital on Thursday, he told him that his condition was not critical.

“I can confirm to you that he had an accident on Wednesday and he had fractures in some parts of his body but he is responding and not in critical condition.

“When I visited him on Thursday, we spoke and he even told me how the incident happened. I wish him a quick recovery so that he can get back on his feet and contribute to the development of his people as he has always done,” Aziegbemi added.

Onobun, who represents the federal constituencies of Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben in the House of Representatives, is said to have suffered many fractures when a car he was riding in apparently crashed into a ditch on the Ekpoma-Abuja Highway.

The legislator’s dark-brown Mitsubishi SUV’s wreckage revealed a detached airbag system, a broken windshield, and a deformed roof.
