(Ekiti LG Polls) EKSIEC release timetable for Chairmanship, Councilorship election

The Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, EKSIEC, has finalized arrangements for elections in the 16 local governments and 22 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the State.

The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Cornelius Akintayo, hinted to the commission’s operations ahead of the exercise during a news conference on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.

Justice Akintayo, joined by other Commission members, stated that the election of 177 counsellors would also take place.

Ward Congresses to elect Chairmanship and Counsellorship candidates by political parties would be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, he explained.

From the 12th to the 18th of October 2023, several political parties participating in the election will collect and submit nomination forms.

From the 6th to the 10th of November, political parties will be required to submit a list of qualified and unqualified candidates, as well as replace candidates.

While asking the cooperation of the media and other important stakeholders in the state for the success of the process, the EKSIEC Chairman stated that the publication of names of electoral officials nominated by political parties and the issue of notice of polls will take place on November 20th, 2023.

He stated that the notice of withdrawal of candidates by political parties and the conclusion of electioneering campaigns by political parties will expire on November 24th and 29th, respectively.

Reiterating the Commission’s readiness to hold a free and credible election under his leadership, he stated that the Commission had completed plans to engage in proactive voter awareness and mobilization.

He promised that all of the country’s registered political parties will be fully mobilized to participate in the exercise.
