Enyimba names Nwankwo Kanu as chairman

Nwankwo Kanu, a former Nigerian and Arsenal forward, has been named chairman of Nigerian league champions Enyimba, according to a state government official.

The nomination was made public by Abia State’s newly elected governor, Alex Otti.

Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who led “The People’s Elephant” for 24 years and led the team to two CAF Champions League championship medals, was succeeded by Kanu.

Finidi George, a former Super Eagles teammate of Kanu’s, led the state government-owned Enyimba to a record-tying eighth league championship and a spot in the CAF Champions League for the following year.

The chairman of another Nigeria Premier League team, Abia Warriors, has been announced as John Sam Obuh, who most recently worked with the Abuja-based Roma Academy.
