Fintiri vs Binani: Tribunal reveals date to give verdict on Adamawa guber election

On October 28, 2023, the Adamawa Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will rule on the lawsuit contesting the election of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

Recall that the PDP’s Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was declared the winner of the general election in March 2023 despite a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani Dahiru.

Along with allegations of extensive electoral law violations and dishonest voting practices, APC and Binani contended in their appeal that the Tribunal should confirm Hudu Yunusa Ari’s proclamation that she won the election.

In a separate move, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate Fintiri requested that the tribunal dismiss the claims made by the APC and Binani.

Additionally, News Point Nigeria reported in June that Binani had urged the Tribunal to issue its ruling prior to Hudu Ari, the suspended resident electoral commissioner, being charged.

Recall that Hudu’s arraignment was set for November 6, 2023, by the Adamawa State High Court of Justice.

Hudu is accused of a number of offenses, including announcing fraudulent election results, violating his neutrality pledge, engaging in disruptive conduct during an election, causing a commotion, and impersonating a public official.
