First Lady, Remi Tinubu pledges N.5 million support each to women farmers

Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, the President’s wife, has proclaimed that women farmers in the country will each receive N500,000, with a total of N10 million going to five Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) state coordinators.

Mrs Tinubu also stated that the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), in collaboration with the RHI, will assist an additional 80 women farmers from each state by providing training and capacity building, agricultural inputs, and purchasing all produce from farms after harvest.

She revealed this during a meeting with governors’ wives hosted by the RHI at the State House in Abuja.

Tinubu promised to reintroduce Alternative High School for Girls, stating that the school would allow girls who had dropped out of school due to pregnancy, domestic violence, child trafficking, drug addiction, or other reasons to return to the classroom and make a living for themselves.

She stated that several states already have such schemes known as’second chance schools’ and urged governors’ wives to be steadfast and supportive of one another. She praised them for their efforts in their respective states, particularly to alleviate the hardships caused by the termination of the fuel subsidy, and encouraged them to step up their efforts.

Tinubu announced the commencement of the We Are Equal campaign. We Are the Same Campaign is an initiative by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) to empower women, promote economic growth, and advance gender equality.

A raffle was held, and Osun State was chosen as the location for the campaign’s launch.

During the conference, it was also announced that the RHI would distribute 1,950,000 exercise books to public primary and junior secondary schools around the country.
