Flood ravage houses, fill roads in Zamfara community

After a major downpour on Sunday evening in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, a devastating flood has obliterated a large number of homes.

According to Platinum Times, citizens were spotted taking up their goods from their homes as a result of the over an hour-long period of torrential rain that caused chaos in numerous districts of the State capital.

Many roads were flooded in water, especially in the Gengeri Megamu area, making it very difficult for drivers to pass.

Alhaji Malami, a local, described it as horrific and said that many people lost their homes as a result of the intense rain.

“The State government knows that such incidents have been occurring over the years but no action has been taken to address the issue of flood in the area.

“Most of the areas are waterlogged and there are no well constructed gutters to reduce the flooding,” he said.

While blaming the State government for not taking proper measures, he also blamed the residents for building their houses on waterways, saying that flood has been wreaking havoc in the areas in the previous years.

He called on the State government to as a matter of urgency design strategies that can prevent flooding in the area.

Another victim, Mrs Okoye told DAILY POST that she lost some of her properties, lamenting that she was busy saving the lives of her children which she said was very important to her.

“My husband was at his workplace and I was doing all these struggling alone, we would have saved some of our properties,” she lamented.

One Mike, an engineer, said the government has its rules for building houses but the rules were not being followed because of sharp practices.
