Former Super Falcons coach, Godwin Izilein, passes on at 81
Pa Godwin Izilein, the former Super Falcons head coach, has died.
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) winner died on Wednesday at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) at the age of 81.
Until his death, he coached various Nigerian clubs, including the then-Mid-West squad that faced Pele of Brazil in the Unification Cup at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
He formerly served as the head coach of Bendel Insurance FC and received his football coaching education in Germany.
During his coaching career, the late Izilein received numerous accolades for Nigeria. He was also the head coach at Edo Queens FC. He also played for the Green Eagles, which were coached by Alabi Aisien.
He won the famous African Women’s CAF Cup with the Super Falcons in South Africa few years ago.
He is survived by his wife and children.
